vehicular accident
my husband
snapped the cords
to the mitral valve
in his heart and
fractured several
ribs.

The doctors felt
my husband should
have open heart
surgery as soon as
possible. We decided we would
wait until after our
son's funeral.

After the funeral
the cardiologist
decided Dennis
was stabilizing, so
it might be better
to wait until his ribs were healed.

While my husband
was mending we
began learning
about what we
would be able to
do to improve
Dennis' condition.

We were already
vegetarians but we
decided we would
try to become
vegans and
eliminate all
animal fat and
make it easier
for Dennis' heart to
work and keep his
arteries clean.

By doing this we
were able to put
off the surgery for
almost 8 years.
We also began
juicing which gave
Dennis more
energy.
